The Phallus Dreweseii aka The Penis Mushroom
The Internet is for pornography. Christ, just look at our blog's #1 and #2 most popular posts!
So let's say you're some not-so-well-known mycologist (that's someone who deals in mushrooms — so now you know what to call your Sophomore year college roommate) who's looking to bring some attention to a recent find. What should you do?
Name it after the penis, of course! And thus, you have the Phallus Dreweseii (pictured above).
But I don't entirely get it. Personally, my genitals are not multicolored with a single gonad. But maybe that's just me.
The botanist who discovered the mushroom, Dennis A. Desjardin, described the new species in a SF Gate article as "a tiny little thing, barely 2 1/2 inches long and thinner than your little finger."
Hey, Dennis, small piece of advice. I'm not sure you want to let people know that that description reminds you of a penis. Just sayin' is all.
