Can TA Seduction by Email Change Your Grade?

It can be hard to communicate emotions through email. That's why we litter them with "lol," emoticons and nude pictures — to get that much closer to real conversation.

Well, that's just the opening (above) of this juicy ten-message email thread between a TA and a student. The rest is jam-packed with innuendo and outuendo. I'll help you see right through to the subtext, after the jump…

Let's start with the opening. You can tell that Caroline has done this before. But a little proofreading can go a long way. TA's aren't into misuses of "your" and "you're" and it's a little wordy. But she closes strong with "I'm up for anything," by which she means "sex." Onward…

Todd is an academic. He refers to her use of "CUTE! ;)" as measly "kind words." Her parents' murder scheme — a mere "predicament." And he limits her "up for anything" to "extra credit." His wise words indicate that he's seen this scene in too many movies. But Caroline thinks she's not getting through to him.

Looks like someone started watching a little Californication. "Desperate" is that key word you've been missing all along.

Wow. It looks like this sexual overture has turned into a legitimate way to earn some extra-credit. Will Caroline end it here?

I guess she's keeping it up. She's a very goal-oriented person, AKA, a "nymphomaniac."

Shut down. But Todd — what's this "fellow students" business? Not cool. If a girl is flirting with you, you can't just transfer her to someone else. A frat boy might call you a "pimp" but you're not literally a pimp.

See? This is getting awkward for Todd. Most guys just aren't used to doing this kind of thing one-on-one. There's nobody there to keep the conversation social. So he calls in Professor MacDaddy. But you can't just CC your wingman on to an email. It's not the same.

I think Caroline had a few too many drinks that night. She gets confused between morning and night. No — I get it. Do you get it? She wants to sleep with him.
