evolution-of-storage-header

Everyone has been going nuts over an Evolution of Storage infographic posted on Flickr last week showing the ever-changing storage capacity of different media devices over the years.  The chart certainly shows how far we've come.

In the original, for music storage, red squares equal 1 minute of music whereas green squares equal 1 hour of music.  However, I quickly realized you could make a small tweak in the graphic's legend without reducing its veracity.

Check out the altered legend above.  The chart still works, right!?

See how well the new version works with the whole graphic after the jump…

billboard-fail

Here was the plan: WPMI 15, a TV station covering Mobile, Alabama and the Florida panhandle, will show off their lovely news team on the left-hand side of their electronic billboard, leaving the right side open for breaking news.

Everyone knows the best source for breaking news is Twitter, right?  So why not display the station's latest news tweets on that big old electronic screen?

Well, the flub above is what resulted.  Here's the original tweet, added on November 18th, still intact.

But some people aren't laughing.  According to the Florida News Center, "Newport Television, the owners of WPMI, have suspeneded [sic] General Manager Shea Grandquest and News Director Wes Finley for one week, without pay."

This latest twist in the story is almost as funny as the initial billboard.

How is this the fault of the General Manager and News Director?  I realize the Deep South believes that coincidences are signs from God, but can't we find a better scapegoat?

Like maybe the photographer who right before snapping these newscasters said, "Okay, on the count of three, smile like a rapist.  One, two, three!"

vhs-toaster

The Internet has a lot of helpful how-to guides.

It's also got a lot of how-to guides for worthless garbage… like turning your old VHS machine into a toaster.

In the accompanying video, you can see the VHS Toaster at work, turning boring old white bread into delicious new toast.

But the VHS toaster has plenty of other uses… like destroying '80s movies that haven't aged well.  Take that Vice Versa staring Judge Reinhold and Fred Savage!

You remember the band OK Go, right?

The music video for their song "Here It Goes Again" blasted past Internet sensation entering into the realm of global consciousness.  With over 48 million views as of post time, the vid currently ranks as the 37th most viewed and the 7th most favorited YouTube video of all time.  The accolades even translated into real life, earning them a 2007 Grammy for the production.

And they did it the old fashioned way: One take, no special effects; all treadmills, all the time.

So above, catch the video for their latest single entitled, "WTF?"

Moments into the song, that question entered my mind: WTF, OK Go?

"Here It Goes Again" was 3 minutes and 4 seconds of unadulterated choreography and dance moxie.  Six seconds into this new music video the special effects start pouring on and don't let go for the entire thing.

Come on, guys!  I realize that even Dylan went electric, but he never betrayed his core values: singing with a really whiny voice.

It's important to stick with the one thing that works for you.  In the case of OK Go, the music was never that exciting, so stick with the no special effects thing.  At the very least, it helps separate the band apart from the Star Wars movies.

TMZ-tiger-woods

The big celebrity story over the weekend: Tiger Woods sustaining some facial lacerations from a "car crash."

…or so that was the story being told by the "traditional news media" — those fact-checking wimps!

By the day after the incident, TMZ was reporting that the real culprit behind Tiger's cut up face was his wife, Elin Nordegren.  The two supposedly had been arguing about an affair Tiger was allegedly having.

Here's the deal: Ever since TMZ broke the news of Michael Jackson's death, I've been weary of doubting them on anything they report.  Those guys have infiltrated local police precincts around the country worse than a Mexican drug cartel.  If we ever enter a state of national emergency, the best solution might be to put TMZ in charge.  They're like the CIA, INTERPOL and your gossipy Jewish aunt all rolled into one.

Also, supposedly Nordegren helped save Tiger from the wreckage by smashing through the back window of his SUV with a golf club.  Using a golf club to smash Tiger's window isn't the kind of irony one can whip up in an emergency situation after the body's gone into a state of shock; that's what goes down in a premeditated argument when rage instantly seeks the strongest source of revenge.

So you can already see the holes in the Woods' story.

Plus, you have to doubt the whole car crash thing.  We all know Tiger's strength is his driving.  Now, if he had putted his SUV into a tree, that I could believe.

Picture 1

While most people agree that the Twitter account @shitmydadsays is mildly funny, we can't all justify it's creator, Justin Halpburn, getting a TV deal with CBS for it's own TV show. A show based off a Twitter account? Even we know that's a bad idea.

If we all knew our tweets had the potential do to anything more than fill everyone in on our mundane statuses, I'm sure we'd all try harder. Or we wouldn't; because Twitter is – and always will be – completely pointless. There's not much more depressing than someone getting paid ridiculous amounts of money for having a mildly entertaining Twitter account… or is there?

After the jump, I've come up with a few more ridiculous Internet-related TV deals that could be pitched so we (me) can stop feeling bad about our (my) Tweets being anything less than television show worthy.

The phone rang.  I was nervous.  A bead of sweat dripped from my forehead.  Still, I reached for the phone and answered with trepidation.

My fear subsided for a moment as the operator spoke from the other end of the line.  But his voice was anything but calming.

"The gobble…" he exclaimed.  The hair on the back of my neck stood on end.  "It's coming from inside the house!!"
