Is Your Online Video Worth A $30 Million Remake?
news:lite reports that "an unknown filmmaker from Uruguay has been given $30m by Hollywood studio bosses – to turn his $500 YouTube video of a giant robot invasion into a movie."
Granted, the "unknown" director, Federico Alvarez, runs a post-production visual effects house, so I'm sure he has plenty of experience and "borrowed" a lot of equipment. You could probably shoot an awesome YouTube video for $500 if you got your cousin Will Ferrell to star in it too.
Still, from $500 out-of-pocket expenses to a $1 million director's fee in-pocket is a pretty major step forward in the size of your checking account.
Someone should give the WoW freak out kids $30 million to finally, truly make The Greatest Freak Out Ever (ORIGINAL FEATURE FILM)?! It would be like Jackass: The Movie only more fake and more crappy.
