iTunes Sells 10 Billionth Song

You know why tonight is going to be a good night for the Black Eyed Peas?  Because they are one of the only acts whose music people are still willing to pay for.

As reported by Billboard, iTunes sold its 10 billionth song on Wednesday.  And as I write this, 100 million songs are currently being stolen via torrents.

But using some terrible math: Apple has confirmed sales of 220 million iPods.  That means that sales of songs per iPod come to 45 songs per iPod sold.  Or the equivalent of about 3 – 4 albums per iPod.  No wonder the music industry is crumbling before our eyes.

To celebrate the 10 billionth song, iTunes released their 25 most sold singles of all time.  Here are the top 10:

1. Black Eyed Peas, "I Gotta Feeling"
2. Lady Gaga, "Poker Face"
3. Black Eyed Peas, "Boom Boom Pow"
4. Jason Mraz, "I'm Yours"
5. Coldplay, "Viva La Vida"
6. Lady Gaga, "Just Dance"
7. Flo Rida, "Low"
8. Taylor Swift, "Love Story"
9. Leona Lewis, "Bleeding Love"
10. Ke$ha, "Tick Tock"

Uhg.  Maybe it's a good thing the industry is going under…
