Date Rape: The Music Video
This is a music video that exists. In real life. It was written, produced, performed, and directed by actual human beings doing their actual jobs. The gist of it is pretty much this: date rape is a-okay as long as the sex is spectaculaaaaar.
After huge backlash this week, Kiely Williams, a.k.a. Whorey McWhorester, released a video on Youtube explaining what she believes the song is really about.
"To me, music can be as simple as a story relayed or imagined or elaborated on. Not every song has a greater message to the world. Not every song is "We Are The World"." Well, yeah. That is true.
But why make this song? Why not a song about any other topic at all?
"I wrote "Spectacular" and made the video to bring attention to a serious womens health and safety issue." Whaaaaaat?!? So this was like a PSA? I had no idea. That changes everything.
Thank you, Kiely, for putting date rape into such a negative light.
Spectacular sex? Not on your watch.
