Double Rainbow Guy Is Making All the Rounds

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | September 2, 2010 at 2:00PM

Next week's all new episode of Tosh.0 features our first ever "Web Retreat" with the Double Rainbow Guy!

But in between hanging out with us, Paul Vasquez found the time to shill for Microsoft in the ad above.

I think this was a great move for him.  Obviously, a little extra cash probably won't kill him.  But more importantly, anyone who doubted the authenticity of his original Double Rainbow video, well here's proof he wasn't faking …because he sure can't act!  All the way!!

Tune in next Wednesday to check out Daniel's amazing adventure with the Double Rainbow Guy!  They promise not to try to sell you any computer software.

This Is Not an Ad

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | July 15, 2010 at 4:00PM

Hey Mr. Klein,

Here's the thing about advertisements: They are supposed to help you sell your product.

With a giant QR code on a billboard, you're bound to elicit one of three reactions:

1) People with smartphones think they are cool — that's why they own smartphones.  No cool person is going to snap a photo of a giant advertisement with their phone, because that's not what cool people do.  Cool people wear expensive hats made by clothiers other than Calvin Klein.  It's not cool to like advertisements.

2) People without smartphones are jealous — jealous of people with smartphones.  Jealousy is not a good emotion to help elicit a purchase from someone.  Jealous people are angry — angry that they'll never know what that damn QR code reveals.  They will take that anger out on Calvin Klein Jeans.  They will wear Wrangler instead.  That's probably all the can afford.  They are poor people without smartphones.

3) Everyone else will just say "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?"  But they won't say it aloud because they don't want to sound like idiots.  No one will hear them, and no one will tell them it's a QR code.  These people will be confused and confused people don't buy anything.  They just stand around awkwardly with their confusion.

This is not an ad…  It is an abomination!

Guy Who Hates Technology (possibly the Unabomber)

Billboards… Now With Smell!

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | June 4, 2010 at 3:00PM

Awesome news via Neatorama!

A new Billboard on River Highway in North Carolina not only shows a gigantic piece of steak on an even more giant fork, but it actually pumps out the smell of steak for passing drivers to suffer through.

How do they do it, you might ask?

Well, every morning they load a live cow into the billboard and then light it on fire!

The billboard also emits horrific cow screams, but it's a small price to pay to get that fresh steak smell!

Goodbye, Get a Mac Ads

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | May 25, 2010 at 11:00AM

Apple is finally putting an end to their extremely successful "Get a Mac" ad campaign that featured Justin Long as the Mac and John Hodgman as the PC.  The ads have run since back in 2006.

Personally, I think it's great that these ads are finally coming to an end.  Now Justin Long will have plenty more time to act in all the amazing movies he chooses to perform in.

Amazing movies like Strange Wilderness and Old Dogs and Crossroads and Jeepers Creepers 2 and Planet 51 and After.Life and Alvin and the Chimpmunks and Serious Moonlight and Waiting… and Accepted and Herbie: Fully Loaded and He's Just Not That Into You and Jeepers Creepers and The Sasquatch Gang and Battle For Terra and Happy Campers and Idiocracy and The Break-Up and Raising Genius and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.

Thank god Justin can get back to a full-time acting schedule and continue to bring magic to the screen.

Twitter to Add Ads

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | February 26, 2010 at 4:00PM

All Things Digital reported today on some of the emerging details of Twitter's plans to start adding advertising.

According to the article:

"There are plenty of details to work out. Including a launch date, though it seems as if the first half of this year is a very safe bet."

But that doesn't explain how the tweet above ended up on my account!

I've never even been to Target!
