Nowadays, if you do something silly / stupid / ridiculous, you have to assume it'll find its way to the Internet, especially if said stupid act is in video format.

So take for instance this clip from the Cleveland Fox Affiliate, Fox 8.

Everything is moving along just fine until around the 20 second mark when the reporter informs us that "This is what the bear probably looked like, except real" while the camera shows us a cut-out of what might resemble a black bear.

Alright, fine.  A silly choice of words, but fine.

But then, right around the 40 second mark, these guys drop the hammer.  "This re-creation," the reporter says straight-faced as a man runs along holding the cut-out black bear.

Re-creation?  A man running hunched behind a slab of wood painted to look like a black bear??

This isn't some funny puff piece.  This neighborhood has a bear wandering around it.  That's the kind of news people might want to know about!  But at the same time, this newscast has to know they're being ridiculous.  Any self-respecting producer has to know this is a joke.

So was Fox 8 trying to drum up some net publicity by playing the fool in a cut-out bear suit?  Or is this how things go in the Cleveland area?

God, I don't even want to know.
