The Most Victorious Commenters of the Year

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | December 29, 2011 at 2:00PM

Celebrating the best (and worst) of the Tosh.0 blog in 2011.

Every week, two of our most popular posts are the Tosh.0 Caption Challenge and Rename This Video.

A number of you have these competitions down to a science and are competing for a victory week in and week out.

Somehow, out of about 50 Caption Challenges, 4 people combined to win a total of 10 times. So we'd like to recognize our most victorious Caption Challengers, John Huntington and Dave Stretton, who both won 3 times each. May you never explode like that other Challenger. Honorable mentions go to Brett Adams and Matthew Muntean who each won twice.

Rename This Video only had one multi-week winner: Gary Huskey. So congratulations to this year's top Renamer, Gary! It's funny because Gary obviously spends way too much time thinking about Rename This Video.

But it's worth noting that Dave Stretton also won a Rename This Video. Though it only happened once, that means Dave had more combined victories than anyone else.

Therefore, we have no choice but to declare Dave Stretton the "Tosh.0 Blog Commenter of the Year for 2011!"

Congrats, Dave! Take your bragging rights back to the WITards.

To all you commenters–

Your work is not going unnoticed. Keep it up.

Especially this week. Carly is on vacation and God knows I don't have the energy to write 10 good jokes a day.

Fan Favorites: Brick to the Nuts

This week, I'm going with a suggestion from Professor Frizzo, primarily because I'm a big fan of Hussein sympathizers. Coalition government, my ass!

However, I should point out that I wanted to use Marcos' suggestion:

Unfortunately, he forgot to include a suggestion.

Remember to leave your suggestion for a Fan Favorite in the comments!

Excercise Your Right to Comment!

engadget

Mashable reports that "Popular gadget site Engadget has recently shut down comments. It?s a temporary measure, it says, but the blog took it because the 'tone in comments has really gotten out of hand.'"

According to their official announcement on the topic, Engadget claimed that comments had "become mean, ugly, pointless, and frankly threatening in some situations… and that's just not acceptable."

Um, Dear Engadget– Have you been to the Internet before? That is basically the definition of comments.

Part of my job is to look over all of your guys' terrible comments. If I freaked out every time I saw something mean, ugly or pointless, I'd be in a nonstop hissy fit. Especially the "pointless" part. Do you realize how pointless some of your comments are? Seriously??

But we love it! Comment all you want!! Who the hell cares?!?! I mean, part of me thinks "Mean, Ugly, Pointless" could be the new Tosh.0 motto.

Awesome YouTube Comments

Posted by: Chris Lesinski | October 7, 2009 at 6:00PM

Awesome is probably the least awesome adjective. Think about it.

I didn't think that "awesome" YouTube comments existed until someone made an entire site dedicated to them. Awesome YouTube Comments is just a big, constantly updated list of out-of-context YouTube comments. Some are relatively entertaining…

They sing about women, but at 0:48 1:21 2:11 2:26 & 3:03 you can clearly see Chaka Demus giving Pliers some seriously sensual buttsex

"Butt sex" is always funny, but it's much funnier as one word. Here's another:

My brother once put a screwdriver in our old microwave. He was 5, I think. Anyway, it caught on fire, but my parents put it out. I didn?t get to see it because i was playing The Legend of Zelda

Look at that! YouTube comments have some hope. I could write a whole entire stage play around this! It's well-articulated with three acts and only a few grammar/punctuation errors… all from a poorly-monitored 11-year-old Legend of Zelda player.

Joe Wilson Outburst Spurs Maturity

Posted by: Chris Lesinski | September 11, 2009 at 1:00PM

The Moment, remixed

The fact that you're alive indicates to me that you're aware of President Obama's speech Wednesday evening. Senator Joe Wilson interrupted with a "You lie!" outburst, a controversial move being dubbed "The Moment."

While conservatives flame comment boards and rudely push their piggish ideals, I'm happy to say that liberals have taken the high road. They've created civil, productive works of art to express how they feel (above). They've added valuable, pertinent information to the discourse like Joe Wilson's phone number (202-225-2452) and his website — which is down at the moment, his servers overwhelmed by constructive liberal criticism. Some health care reform supporters are even going so highbrow as to solicit donations… for Rob Miller, Joe Wilson's opponent next year (go here). All the fun is being had at BuzzFeed.

Respectful Commenter of the Week: johnny h

TMZ.com appeared to be the first to break the news of Jacko's death yesterday with a post entitled "Michael Jackson Dies" timestamped at 5:20pm.

As I write this, the post is set to break the 3,000 comment mark. Comments started rolling in at 5:42 and it didn't take long for the trolls to come out and play.

What a tragic day with the death of two major icons: Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett! Who can put this in perspective for all of us?!? Maybe TMZ commenter johnny h. Reacting to MJ's death, he proclaimed:

he loved to take it in the brown eye, just like farrah did.

Wow, johnny. Really? This was the 24th comment out of nearly 3,000! It went live 5 minutes after the first comment, meaning johnny h must have rushed to a computer, dying to inform us of his profound thought.

For your determined spirit to be the first troll hitting the breaking Michael Jackson death story on TMZ, we say, "Congratulations, johnny h!" You're our Respectful Commenter of the Week!

Respectful Commenter of the Week: MariahCareySongs

After the 13th Annual Webby Awards on Monday, June 8th, The Webbys posted 5 word acceptance speeches from the winners on YouTube. It was interesting hearing how people chose to choose their words. And some of the vids got a lot of views.

One example was Sarah Silverman's Five Word Speech, which she delivered in typical Silverman style:

Not everyone was amused, however. MariahCareySongs commented:

This bitch? needs to die.

Holy cow. Sarah Silverman needs to die?! Funny, because I'm thinking if we ask Mariah Carey who needs to die, it would be the people who illegally post her entire catalog of songs to YouTube. I'm all for piracy, but if you're going to be breaking federal law, you might want to keep a lower profile.

Now, I realize its tough to swallow that Sarah Silverman will garner more views with those five words than you'll probably ever get. And that's in spite of the fact that you're illegally using the music of a multi-platinum selling recording artist to drive traffic to your YouTube page. But that's no reason to lash out.

For your arrogant tone and total disrespect of copyright law, we say congratulations, MariahCareySongs: You're the Respectful Commenter of the Week!
