Google Street View Likes Boys

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | July 1, 2010 at 2:00PM

There are a lot of great places to find illicit images of young boys on the Internet.  The newest one: Google Street View!

A British woman is upset after a Google Street View car captured the above image of her 3-year-old son's bare ass (which was not originally blurred).

At this point, I think it's pretty clear that Google is hungry for pictures of little boys' asses.  And though encouraging your 3-year-old to wear pants is the bane of any parent, this is the world we now live in!

Your naked child can be photographed and put on the Internet by anyone!  This is no longer simply the province of the creepy old bicycle shop owner anymore!

So, the moral, keep your pants on.  Literally.  Figuratively, you should get upset at all this.

Google Adds Store Views, Takes Over World

Dear Google,

We get it. You are omniscient. You know more about us than our spouses and our best friends. You know what we?ve been searching, who we?ve been emailing, and what strip clubs we?re leaving.

And now? Apparently now you are putting your cameras inside our stores so you can know when we?re shoplifting and how long we stand in the bread aisle.

What?s next? I have an idea. You should use your face recognition software to find out who we are so you can set the ads on our sidebars according to what stores we were just in. That way we can click the links you provide and it will take us straight to a page of products based on keywords you have saved for us.

We?ll never have to leave our houses again. And the day we die, you should clear any offending search history on our computers and email all our Chat contacts to let them know we passed on.

Just a few thoughts.

Sincerely,

Carly

P.S. Do you really have face recognition software? It's a rumor I heard on Yahoo! but we both know you can't trust everything you read there. Pshh, Yahoo.

Google Street View As Art

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | December 9, 2009 at 1:14PM

Apparently, the Tosh.0 blog now covers art.  Who knew?

On our radar today, Jon Rafman, an artist who — according to designboom — has created a series of pieces culled entirely from Google Street View.  He searches their archive of drive-by photography looking for interesting images, takes a screengrab and then blows them up to wall-mounting size.

It's great for him because, unlike a real photographer, he doesn't have to actually take any pictures.  Saves him a fortune on film and developing.  (Or at least it could if people still used film and developing.)

Additionally, I feel like he's got to be breaking some sort of law which can really help his artist street cred.  I believe it's considered heroic in the art world when you take on a giant business conglomerate.  Heroic or "the easy way out"… I forget which one.

Regardless, there are a couple awesome finds such as this gun-toting maniac and these Segway riding weirdos.  And you have to respect a man who spends his days scanning every inch of Google Street View.

Oh wait…  Did I say "respect"?  I meant "get a real job!"
