Celebrating the best (and worst) of the Tosh.0 blog in 2011.
At the risk of shocking and offending every Tosh.0 fan and blog reader, I have to admit my favorite Internet phenomenon of 2011 was Nyan Cat.
Nyan Cat first appeared on the blog on April 15th in a post entitled "Nyan Cat Party!" and then popped up again in three subsequent posts.
And though I have a soft spot for the extremely soothing "Nyan Cat – Smooth Jazz Cover," my favorite Nyan Cat video is the "Nyan Cat 10 hours HD 720p" (seen above).
Why Nyan Cat works for me (besides its obvious charms) is that it's a phenomenon that only the Internet could make. In the olden days, funny videos were harder to find, but they still had their outlets: guys getting hit in the crotch landed on America's Funniest Home Videos, aspiring comedic filmmakers had poorly attended alternative short film festivals.
But with the possible exception of some deranged Lower East Side artist's drug-filled loft, where would you ever have the opportunity to watch a 10 hour video of a flying pop tart cat with a rainbow trail set to the most annoyingly repetitive song this side of Lamb Chop's "The Song That Never Ends"?
There was no movie theater to see such nonsense. Even public access TV wasn't handing over 10 hour blocks of time. It took the invention of the Internet to bring these kinds of projects to the masses.
Not since "Hamster Dance" — launched way back in 1998 — has simple animation and annoyingly repetitive music been so perfectly paired …and reached such popularity. It's the kind of phenomenon that may only come around once every decade.
So, love it or hate it, I'd like to think that 2011 was Nyan Cat's year. I love it.
That is, until it drives me bat-shit crazy and I have to turn that fucking annoying crap off.
Sometimes things can be really hard to handle on their own, but when you mix them together they become surprisingly tolerable.
How else can you explain that when you play Nyan Cat and Rebecca Black on piano at the same time it sounds so sweet?
Or the success of the show Friends?

Nyan Cat has fallen on tough times. Like many who suddenly have the spotlight of fame thrust upon them, he quickly found himself getting in with the wrong crowd and making poor decisions.
The footage above shows Nyan Cat moments before being apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol attempting to smuggle drugs into the United States.
Apparently what gave him away was the large stream of psychedelic material following him, as well as the fact that he is made out of a taco.
This will be my last Nyan Cat post as he'll be spending the remainder of his short cat life in a federal penitentiary.

Two Fridays ago, we hosted a Nyan Cat Party here on the Tosh.0 blog.
For some reason — which I can only assume is a loose form of insanity — over a thousand of you liked that post.
So I think you guys might really like this video of a girl dressed as Nyan Cat playing the Nyan Cat song on the violin.
HOW DO I MARRY A GIRL I'VE JUST SEEN ON THE INTERNET???

One of the big things on the Internet this week was "Nyan Cat."
What is Nyan Cat? I'm not entirely sure. It appears to be a half-cat, half-toaster pastry that flies through space while shitting rainbows.
It's extremely annoying. In fact, I found myself wondering, Can anything be more annoying than watching this video?
Then I discovered the answer: Watching a bunch of these videos all at the same time.
After the jump, I've embedded seven more versions of the Nyan Cat video. CLICK HEREto see them all. Then start at the top, and one-by-one, press play all the way down…
Let's get this Friday started! Nyan Cat party up in here, bitches!
You can thank me when your coworkers kill you.
