America Agrees on Something

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | February 7, 2011 at 1:00PM

It's unanimous: Every state disliked the Black Eyed Peas halftime show according to an online ESPN poll.  See the individual states' results here.

Now if only someone in politics would create the Hatred For the Black Eyed Peas Party, maybe we could put an end to all the bickering in Washington.

WTF, Ohio!

super-bowl-poll

One of the cool things about ESPN.com's online polls is that they give you a map breaking down the vote by state.

With the Super Bowl coming this week, the poll on the front page of their site was "Which team are you rooting for to win the Super Bowl?"

Right now, the New Orleans Saints have a 56% edge in fan support.  Not unexpected, being that they are certainly the sentimental favorite.

But the state-by-state breakdown, seen above, is far more interesting.  Louisiana and Indiana are clearly rooting for the home-state team, but some of the other results seem strange.

For instance, WTF, OHIO!

You're too good to root for your neighbor?  You got beef with Indiana??  What's up with that?  Mississippi gets along with its neighbor!  What's your problem?!  All your teams are in the AFC.  You won't even root for your own conference?!

Who you rooting for on Sunday?  And can someone explain to me why Ohio is still on the fence with this one??

2009

Not for real things like government and law, but for important things like the best web meme of 2009!

It's the URLies, Urlesque's web awards that decide who the public's favorite web items are for the year. Is it Keyboard Cat or David After Dentist!? Who's it going to be!? The anticipation is killing me!

I haven't been this excited since I entered the 8th grade student council race as treasurer. Who needs actual politics? We all waste enough time online to admit to ourselves that we love all things internet, so let's be honest.

I'm pulling for Keyboard Cat. What about you!? Go vote!

Jon Stewart is America's Most Trusted Newscaster

timepoll

According to the above online TIME poll (the most official of all online polls), Comedy Central's own Jon Stewart is America's Most Trusted Newscaster.

Therefore, by the transitive property, America's most trusted guy who knows funny stuff about the Internet is Daniel Tosh.  Congrats to us!

But I don't know how official these online polls are.  I'm pretty sure ESPN has been using them for years to determine who Americans think is the top prospect in the upcoming NHL Amateur Hockey Draft.

Scott Glennie, my ass!!
