My Reddit Secret Santa Gift

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | December 9, 2011 at 1:00PM

As I have for the past 3 years, I asked you guys — the Tosh.0 blog readers — to help choose what gift to send for the Reddit Secret Santa.

If you recall, he wanted something for his office desk to make him "the envy of all my coworkers."

Many of you suggested fun office gifts like BuckyBalls, a Butt Station Desk Accessory Holder or a USB Rocket Launcher.  But you can buy those things from any online store.  Would they really make his coworkers "envious"?

So I did what I always do because I'm lazy: I turned to the comment with the most likes…

So we're going with Jeff's plan: a framed $100 Trillion Dollar bill from Zimbabwe.

What could make your coworkers more envious than a homemade gag gift, suggested by an Internet commenter, and put together by a little-known blogger from a basic cable TV show?

Don't worry, dude, I'll throw in some Comedy Central swag too.

And if he hates it, he can blame Jeff Scarafia and the other 27 people who liked his ridiculous idea.  If it was up to me, I woulda just cut him a check for $5,000 and been done with it.

Happy Holidays from me and Reddit Gifts!

What Gift Should I Send to My Reddit Secret Santa?: 2011 Edition!

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | December 7, 2011 at 10:00AM

The holidays are all about giving, so each year it fills my heart with joy to participate in the World's Largest Online Secret Santa over at RedditGifts.com.

Once again, I'm going to let you guys help decide what I send.

For the first holiday gift exchange, we sent some fun Bacon Bandages.  Then, last year, we decided to class things up a bit and sent some lovely Riedel Stemless Champagne Glasses.

This year, the fellow Redditor I was matched with has a request:

"hey secret santa, i'm wishing for something that i can put on my desk in the office and be the envy of all my coworkers! thanks!"

So there you go.  Simple enough.  How can we make this guy the envy of all his coworkers?

Two rules: 1) I'm paying for this gift out of pocket, so suggestions should fit a blogger's salary, and 2) we are actually going to send this, so think realistically!

Leave your gift suggestions in the comments and I'll let you know what we're sending on Friday.

Two more rules: 1) Don't be dicks, and 2) don't tell me to send him a box of dicks.  A box of dicks does not look good on a desk.  Well, it might look good on my desk, but not most people's.

And remember, it's too late for this year's Reddit Secret Santa, but Reddit Gifts holds gift exchanges all year long, so head over to RedditGifts.com to sign up for future gift exchanges.

Just Your Typical Night In

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | April 19, 2011 at 1:00PM

Recently, the Tosh.0 blog has received some flack from one of my favorite sites, Reddit.  Some Redditors feel we don't give Reddit enough credit for the content on our blog.

Though many of my fellow Redditors have defended us, and understand we do our best to always provide a "via" link to wherever we find things, we hate making people upset, and we want to start doing a better job giving credit where credit is due.

So for instance, see the image above?  The image of FOUR DUDES PLAYING VIDEO GAMES HALF-NAKED IN A BLANKET FORT?

I found that on Reddit!

Thank you, Reddit!  Thank you for providing us with this awesome photograph of FOUR DUDES PLAYING VIDEO GAMES HALF-NAKED IN A BLANKET FORT.

Hopefully, this helps address many of your concerns.

My Reddit Secret Santa Gift

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | December 6, 2010 at 2:00PM

On Friday, I posed the question to you: What gift should I send my Reddit Secret Santa this year?

You guys gave me over a hundred suggestions.  And apparently, you're kings of the crappy gift who spend a lot of time surfing the web and watching late-night infomercials.

I'm not sure if my Secret Santa would like any of these things, but I'm sure it'll make a great holiday gift guide for the Tosh.0 blog:

And yet somehow after reading all those suggestions, I still felt unsatisfied.  But one person had the holiday spirit in mind.

"Did your recipient list any likes or dislikes?" avnerd asked.  "Since it's all about the giving you should get them something good."

Great call, avnerd!  So I did a little research on my Secret Santa.  Turns out he's recently moved to a new city and is trying to meet some new people.

So I've decided to class this place up a bit.  This year's gift is a set of two Riedel 'O' Champagne Stemless Glasses!

What better way to meet someone new than to say, "BITCH, LETS GO BACK TO MY PLACE AND DRINK VEUVE CLICQUOT OUTTA MY CLASSY NEW STEMLESS CHAMPAGNE FLUTES!"

Booyah!

Remember to sign up for next year's Reddit Secret Santa and maybe you'll be lucky enough to have some badass like me send you some brand new mutha' f'in' Riedel stemless champagne flutes!

What Gift Should I Send My Reddit Secret Santa: 2010 Edition

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | December 3, 2010 at 2:00PM

It's my favorite time of year — the time of year when I sign up for Reddit's online Secret Santa and then let you, the readers of the Tosh.0 blog, determine what I send.

Last year, thanks to your terrible suggestions, some poor Redditor received Bacon Strips Adhesive Bandages.  I'm hoping for 2010 we can dig deep within the good side of our hearts and not send this year's guy such a crappy gift!

Remember, there are only three rules:

  1. No food items
  2. No living things
  3. No NSFW items (aka the "giant sparkly purple plastic dong" rule)

Also, the suggested spending limit is $15.  But, since I am a rich blogger, I may be willing to go as high as $20!  …assuming the suggestion is good enough.

Leave your gift ideas in the comments and then on Monday I'll let you know what I'm sending.

Everyone who suggests I send a giant sparkly purple plastic dong will receive one free piece of coal.

Pure Doorstopping Genius

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | September 20, 2010 at 6:00PM

Cut out the middle man.  That's what I always say…

This is the point of the Internet.  Anyone can see something absurd and immediately  share it with the world.

This photo is one of the greatest things I've ever seen in my entire life and I didn't even have to go anywhere to see it.  All I had to do is sit on my lazy ass at work and search the Internet (which is what I am here to do) and click on a link on Reddit entitled "Pure Laziness."

And as I laugh, I must question, "Who is truly the lazy one here?"  At least that dude is out proppin' open doors, gettin' things done…

The Truth About Fake Facebook Statuses

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | March 16, 2010 at 4:00PM

One of the top topics on Reddit right now is the conversation seen above: "Since there are about 20 websites that can generate fake Facebook conversation/status updates, can we stop upvoting them to the front page?"

No.  No, we can't.  Just because something is "fake" doesn't mean it's not awesome!

You know what else is fake.  Hollywood.  And I live for Hollywood.  Television isn't real.  Movies aren't real.  Avatar was certainly not "real" at all.

Would you make the argument that just because John McClane isn't a real person they should stop making Die Hard movies?  That just because there are about 20 screenwriters who can think of ridiculous ways for everyman police officer John McClane to find himself at the center of international terrorist plots for no good reason whatsoever, they should stop creating movies that kick so much ass??

Hell no!  I'll upvote fake crap over real crap every day of the week!

This past weekend, I spent a good three hours playing Mega Man 10, and I'm about to turn 31 years old.  Downvote!  That's real life.  Real life sucks.
