Let's Sell a Sitcom for Millions!

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | September 28, 2010 at 2:00PM

After the "success" (really?!?) of their new show "$#*! My Dad Says," news has come that CBS is turning a second Twitter account into a sitcom, @ShhDonTellSteve.

Let's let The Hollywood Reporter tell the story:

"The Twitter feed's premise is a guy who secretly Tweets the actions of somebody he lives with (in this case, his jobless, drunken roommate). The feed has drawn more than 13,000 followers."

That actually seems like–  Wait…  13,000 followers?!?  That's it???

@ShitMyDadSays had over 700,000 followers when it got picked up as a sitcom.  All it takes now is 13,000 followers??  We should all get in on that gravy train…

That's why I've created a new Twitter account: @JohnnySitcom.

The Twitter feed's premise is simple: It follows the hacky, TV-ready tripe of a made-up idiot, Johnny Sitcom.

And here's the best part: If we cross the 13,000 follower mark, I'll go sell the Twitter account to CBS and we'll all split the giant profits!  Too easy, right?

So go follow @JohnnySitcom and then sit back and wait for the checks to start rolling in!  FREE MONEY!!!

The Internet is like that friend you have that always takes a joke one step too far.

You've got the banter going back and forth. You're both laughing. The laughter dies down. Then your friend, let's call him Dane Cook, has to try and get one more laugh out of it. Come on, Dane.

ShitMyDadSays is a pretty funny Twitter account that's being made into a TV show with William Shatner. ShitMyDarthSays is a parody of ShitMyDadSays with Darth Vader…well, you get it. Maybe ShitMyDarthSays will get a TV show starring Leslie Nielsen. He's kind of like a poor man's William Shatner.

Leslie can wear the Darth Vader costume around his house and throw out mean one-liners all day. Actually, that show sounds awesome. Make it happen, Internet!

Shit My Dad Says Gets Shatner and Show

Shit My Dad Says is about to become your new favorite TV show.

William Shatner, the ultimate guy over 60 with a talent for delivering one-liners, has signed on to play the father in a CBS project based on the Twitter account Shit My Dad Says.

When Twitter, William Shatner, and comedy television get together, I'm on board.

Especially if the main character is a 74 year-old man who informs his son there's no pressure to get married by saying, "Your wedding is just one more day in my life I can't wear sweat pants."

God, I love old people.

5 Worse Internet TV Shows Than @sh*tmydadsays

While most people agree that the Twitter account @shitmydadsaysis mildly funny, we can't all justify it's creator, Justin Halpburn, getting a TV deal with CBS for it's own TV show. A show based off a Twitter account? Even we know that's a bad idea.

If we all knew our tweets had the potential do to anything more than fill everyone in on our mundane statuses, I'm sure we'd all try harder. Or we wouldn't; because Twitter is – and always will be – completely pointless. There's not much more depressing than someone getting paid ridiculous amounts of money for having a mildly entertaining Twitter account… or is there?

After the jump, I've come up with a few more ridiculous Internet-related TV deals that could be pitched so we (me) can stop feeling bad about our (my) Tweets being anything less than television show worthy.

Viral Vote: Is Your Twitter Account TV Worthy?

In a further sign of the end of humanity, finally, a Twitter account is being turned into a television program.

The hugely popular Twitter account @shitmydadsays has been picked up by CBS to develop into a sitcom.

It'll be interesting to see how much CBS can suck the life-blood out of this beloved tweeting phenomenon by turning it into a "The Big Bang Theory" clone.

But the bigger question becomes, is a Twitter account really enough substance to base an entire series around.  I know my Twitter account isn't TV worthy?  What about yours?

Poop My Dad Says

I was reflecting today on the guy who runs that Twitter account @ShitMyDadSays, Justin Halpern.

He's like hugely famous now!  People want to give him book deals and TV shows and interview him and stuff, all because he has some silly Twitter account of garbage his dad said.  Not stuff he said!  I can write stuff other people said!

So let the rip-off begin…

My father was never big into cursing.  He'd be really upset it I used the word "shit" in a such a public forum as the Internet.  So I decided I'd just go with the word "poop."  @PoopMyDadSays was still available on Twitter, so…

Check it out: twitter.com/poopmydadsays.  It's hilarious!

HBO mini-series producers, you can just direct message me on Twitter.  Thanks.
