Women's World Cup Final Sets Tweeting Record

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | July 18, 2011 at 1:00PM

According to Mashable, "The final game, between USA and Japan, set the new all-time high [tweeting record] with 7,196 per second at the end of the game."

As a point of reference, that record was nearly double the amount of tweets coming in during the Super Bowl which tallied a mere 4,064 tps.

Thus proving my theory, not only are women nearly twice as chatty as men, they're also willing to talk about the boringest shit.

Also interesting:

"The previous record was set just as New Year?s Day began this year in Japan ? with 6,939 tweets per second. The Women?s World Cup Final also far outpaces the Men?s World Cup 2010?s most-tweeted match: 3,283 tweets were sent per second when Japan beat Denmark. It?s certainly curious that all of these top-tweeting moments occurred around Japan."

Not curious at all, Mashable.  It just proves my second theory: the Japanese love technology!  I'm going to try to set a new tweeting record by releasing my movie, Godzilla vs. Hello Kitty.

Time For More World Cup!

Posted by: Carly Hallam | June 25, 2010 at 1:00PM

Tomorrow the US soccer team plays Ghana and you know what that means…moooooooooore vuvuzela!

Every species hates vuvuzelas! Unfortunately, we humans can't as easily express our distaste for those stupid horns.

UNFORTUNATELY!

Looks Like There'll Be More World Cup

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | June 23, 2010 at 12:00PM

Did you see that big finish in the World Cup moments ago??

Apparently, the US was so pathetic, the refs gave us some extra time to try to win and it paid off.  Thanks, refs!  You guys have been so great to us over the course of this World Cup.  We really owe you our gratitude.

I'm just glad they made it through.  The case of red, white and blue vuvuzelas I ordered from South Africa still hasn't arrived.  If the US had gotten knocked out, I would've taken a bath to the tune of about $5000.  Keep buying me time, Team USA!  Otherwise that's my kids' college fund down the tubes.

A Snapshot of North Korea

Posted by: Carly Hallam | June 22, 2010 at 5:00PM

Editors at the Illawarra Mercury learned everything they need to know about North Korea by watching Team America. And honestly? Who didn't?

I think that's a perfect snapshot of the country.

Kim Jong Il is North Korea. He was sent from Xiron to conquer the Earf. And he's fucking busy. That's all you need to know. That sums up Kim Jong Il (and North Korea).

Oh, and he thinks Arec Barrwin is worthress. Which is only one of the many things Kim and the rest of the world vehemently disagree on.

You Thought I Was Kidding?

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | June 16, 2010 at 11:00AM

You thought I was joking around yesterday when I said I was only posting vuvuzela-related stuff until the USA was booted from the World Cup?

Well, the Internet will NEVER run out of humorous vuvuzela images.  Never!

Say it will!  I dare ya!  I double dare ya!

Ha.  "Vuvuzela Hero."  That's just silly.

Carly's Sports Corner

Posted by: Carly Hallam | June 15, 2010 at 5:00PM

I've already expressed my interest in seeing every sports replay done using Legos. Many of you agreed with me. Little did we know that Lego soccer wouldn't be the only dumb awesome non-humans playing human sports video we'd see today.

Fish soccer, you guys! What a cool thing to come out of Japan!

The ball just sort of floats there and the fish just kind of swim and it's pretty much amazing. I have no qualms whatsoever with fish soccer.

When people speak Japanese all I hear is "bzzzz". This is exactly like watching the World Cup!

More Vuvuzela!

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | June 15, 2010 at 4:00PM

What's that??  You want more vuvuzela-related humor???

Well I got your funny vuvuzela images right here!

Can you tell that instead of doing work I'm streaming World Cup soccer and then desperately attempting to throw up some random images at the last minute?

Well here's the deal: I'm going to keep posting vuvuzela stuff until the United States is eliminated from World Cup.  That's how I show my support of this country!

I don't vote; I'm not registered for jury duty; I don't pay taxes.  I feel obligated to at least do something

The Real Purpose of a Vuvuzela

Posted by: Mike Pomranz | June 15, 2010 at 2:00PM

There is nothing funny about this image.

Renowned footballer and current Argentine manager Diego Maradona had a serious cocaine problem, alright?  He's been battling drug addiction for decades.

So though we might laugh at the fact that the vuvuzela is perfectly designed to send a massive pile of blow directly up the nose of a former drug addict, we really shouldn't be spreading this image…

We don't want him to get any ideas.  He's always just one vuvuzela and a giant pile of Argentinian marching powder away from a relapse.
