The Pop Culture Translator (Admit it, You Don't Understand Brad Pitt in 'Snatch')
The Canadian College of English Language's Pop Culture Translator is the greatest thing to hit the web since Youtube Closed Captioning. You can click on any of the above clips where people and characters of American pop culture speak in not-so-plain English and the clip will play with "translations".
For example, the opening lyrics to 50 Cent's "Just a Lil Bit" are translated to, "I am looking for a non-committed relationship. Nothing serious. I like to dance. Move your bum like it's on fire. Dance, woman, dance."
Free up your afternoon. This site is hours of easy entertainment! There are only 6 clips with translations but you could easily watch them over and over.
I like the idea that Brad Pitt, 50 Cent, Gollum, Ozzy Osbourne, Sean Paul, and System of a Down sum up American pop culture. But I think they may have forgotten to translate a Jersey Shore clip.
Foreigners don't know phrases like "juice heads", "beatin'-up-the-beat", and "prehistoric kindergarten". And I'd definitely like to hear the official translation of "sloppy seconds".
